How to use a streak without letting it use you
Counting days can be motivating: it makes progress visible and gives you something to protect on hard evenings. Research on goal pursuit shows that monitoring your progress helps people reach goals, especially when progress is recorded.
But a streak is a tool, not a verdict. If the number resets, you haven’t lost the sleep you improved, the triggers you learned, or the person you are becoming. The “Begin again” button keeps your past streaks and the lesson you write, because the lesson is often worth more than the number.
If counting days makes you anxious or all-or-nothing, try tracking habits instead with the daily habit checklist, or read what to do after a setback.
